Intel Display Audio Not Detected

Ask Ubuntu Asked by Jonathan Heitz on December 18, 2020

I am currently running Ubuntu MATE 20.10 on my Lenovo ThinkPad T490. I have the laptop connected to a monitor with DisplayPort via Thunderbolt 3. I have speakers connected to this monitor which I intend to use. However, the display audio is not detected at all by Ubuntu. I have the default i915 driver installed for the Intel UHD 620 graphics in this system. The display audio is detected and works just fine in Windows. I am having trouble figuring out what the problem is, considering I have the correct graphics driver installed. Does anyone know what the issue could be?
