Can elephants drink water by directly sucking it up from its nose?

Biology Asked by user61193 on January 22, 2021

For animals and humans, our noses are connected to the esophagus. When us humans go to the pool and do flips in the water, we often get water stuck in our noses, and drips into our esophaguses. What I am wondering is whether or not elephants can drink water by sucking it up directly up their trunks, instead of putting their trunk in their mouth and spraying water into it.
