1996 6.5 turbo diesel Not starting when warm

Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Asked on May 29, 2021

What could be the possible problem as to why it won’t start when warm. Not sure where to start looking. The glow plugs have already been changed. Could it be a faulty fluid temperature sensor?

One Answer

Have you checked for OBDII codes? It's most likely an electrical component that gets hot, expands, and splits along a crack:

  • Fuel injection control module (FICM)
  • Diesel Glow Plug Controller
  • Crankshaft position sensor
  • Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
  • Fuel Shutoff Solenoid

Some of these can be tested with a multimeter, but be sure to check for codes first.
