Can I disconnect map sensor to see how it runs?

Civic coupe vti 99.

Can is running not great. Can I disconnect the map sensor plug and if it sounds or runs better would this indicate there is a problem with the map sensor?

On the other hand I have read that when disconnecting such sensors car enters limp mode which would based on the name, would surely cause it to run even worse?
