What does current look like if it is pulsed through a wire?

If you had a loop of wire attached to a power supply capable of generating very fast pulses, how does the current travel around the loop?

For explanation sake, it might make sense to assume the loop of wire has the same diameter as earth, so it would clearly take time for a pulse of electricity to travel this loop.

My understanding (and even the question) could be wrong here, but when you introduce a pulse from the power supply, would the current travel through the loop like the image below?
