%%_PreHeader%% Personalization String

Question

I have been told that %%_PreHeader%% Personalization String (http://help.marketingcloud.com/en/documentation/exacttarget/content/personalization_strings/strings/) cannot be used in the body of an email.

Has anyone used this in an email?
If you can't use it in an email, what would it possibly be for?

You can find documentation on the preheader in the marketing cloud documentation: Preheader

This personalization string seems to be automatically added as a first element in the body-tag of the email. If you want to personalize it using AMPscript, the used variables need to be defined in an AMPscript-block that is inserted before the opening body-tag. (More info here: AMPscript variables in Preheader)

Note that in test sends, preheaders aren't rendered and you will always see %%_PreHeader%% in the email.
