When the playoffs approach, a team is said to win out if they win their remaining games on the schedule. This becomes especially important for teams who are not currently in the playoff picture.
For example, the New England Patriots are currently 6-6. If they win out, their record will be 10-6, and should be in good position for at least a Wild Card.
Certainly there are more compelling stories of winning out. Longer streaks coupled with historic collapses of other teams in the division.
I couldn’t find anything on the web searching for terms like "win out" or "winning out". Does anyone know of a resource online that would have this information?
