Intel RST driver downgrade safely?

Super User Asked by Legolas on December 6, 2020

I have an old z68 system using intel rst, configured with 2 HD in raid 1 and accelerated with an ssd.

Through a failed upgrade of win10 from 1903 to 2004, I had to break the raid and acceleration to be able to boot again.

After all that, I was albe to recover and re-establish the raid, but not the acceleration. It turns out that when I set this up, I had an intel rst driver version before 15.9, which allowed setting up acceleration, but I upgraded somewhere to version an intel rst driver 16, which I now note clearly mentions in it’s UI that existing acceleration will continue to work but you cannot set it up anymore.

So, all that to explain why I would like to go back to an older version of the Intel RST driver and associated interface.

Is there any way to do this without getting into an unbootable state again (like the upgrade did)? I have not tried anything yet, except searching on google, but nothing I found mentions downgrading in the case of a raid setup.
