Cant't load Windows 10 anymore

Unix & Linux Asked by J. Doe on August 31, 2020

I have installed RHEL 8 along with Windows 10.

I have used LVM. Volume group of pv /dev/sda1 (xfs) and pv /dev/sdc6 (xfs) mounted for / and /home. /dev/sdc5 (xfs) used for /boot

Now I don’t see a Windows in a grub list. Tried to add to /etc/grub.d/40-custom/

menuentry "Windows 10" {
insmod part_gpt
insmod fat
set root='(hd0,gpt2)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 0CC3-C99F
chainloader +1

Output: blkid:

I don’t understand why the Windows 10 is not booting. Thank you so much.

One Answer

I dual boot as well and here's a proper GRUB2 entry for booting Windows on a UEFI enabled system:

menuentry 'Windows Boot Manager (on /dev/sda1)' --class windows --class os $menuentry_id_option 'osprober-efi-ABCD-EF01' {
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod fat
    set root='hd0,gpt1'
    if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then
      search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd0,gpt1 --hint-efi=hd0,gpt1 --hint-baremetal=ahci1,gpt1  ABCD-EF01
      search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root ABCD-EF01
    chainloader /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi

What you'll need to replace:

ABCD-EF01 -> your EUFI system partition UUID, probably 0CC3-C99F

hd0 -> your disk with Windows (starting with 0), probably hd2

gpt1 -> your partition with UEFI files (starting with 1), probably gpt2
